State 4-H Events

There are several State Sponsored 4-H Events that youth can attend.

Citizenship in Action

This two day event is sponsored by the State 4-H Youth Leadership Council. The purpose of the event is for Kansas youth to learn how the state legislative process works and how their voice and participation in decision-making can make a difference in their local communities. The legislative visit will not only familiarize youth with the capitol building, but will also show them how they can affect the legislative process.

This event is usually held in Mid-February.

Citizenship Washington Focus

Road trip across the USA stopping to see Philadelphia, Gettysburg, the Liberty Bell and more! Meet, learn, share and tour with youth from other states and respected resource people. Walk among places that have made history and places that are making news today. Visit Capitol Hill, government departments, historic sites, and memorials. Get a close-up view of the political process through visits to Capitol Hill. Meet with the Kansas Congressional and Senate delegations to discuss legislative issues. Participate in workshops and assembly groups to learn life skills and discuss possible solutions to domestic and international problems. Interact with 4-H members from other states, learning and sharing about 4-H and other interests and issues. Delegates and/or their counties are responsible for the cost of $1,675. This trip has filled up quickly in the last few years, make sure that you do not delay in signing up to attend!

Discovery Days

Discovery Days is a "Mini-College" experience and it takes place on the Kansas State University Manhattan Campus. Classes and tours are offered on a wide variety of subjects. You can also share your talents in the Talent Show. Are you ready to dance? Are you ready for some Call Hall ice cream? Are you ready for some great speakers, and Discovery Days Night Live and all the other possibilities in your future? If so, then Discovery Days is for you! Participants must be between the ages of 13-18, and will get to choose classes in which they would like to participate. Participants will stay in the dorms and eat at Derby Dining Hall on campus... just as if they were in college.   In the past, cost to attend was normally around $200, plus class fees (usually $5-$10, if any). The fee for 2020 has not been set yet. Discovery Days 2020 will take place May 27th through May 29th.

Kansas Youth Leadership Forum

Come and build your leadership skills and potential through workshops, consulting groups, inspirational speakers and more. Youth participants must be between ages 14-18 before January 1. You do not have to be a 4-H member to attend. KYLF takes place at Rock Springs 4-H Center. Delegates should plan to attend the full time (Friday- Sunday). In addition, the State 4-H Youth Leadership Council will be elected at KYLF.
